Foreword to the book

Baron Rees of Ludlow

We worked on this project with Exhibition Designer Tyra Till, Dr John C Taylor OBE, the renowned British inventor, horologist, and philanthropist, and Sir Arnold Wolfendale FRS, the former Astronomer Royal. The Exhibition explored the nature of time on earth and in space, principally through the work of John Harrison, who invented the Sea Clock, or marine chronometer. His invention finally enabled mariners to determine accurately their longitudinal position whilst at sea. We designed the graphic panels and the book of the Exhibition from Tyra’s art direction. The Exhibition was selected with others from the Royal Society Summer Exhibition to go to Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Society at Carlton House Terrace SW1, is the oldest scientific academy still in existence—a Fellowship of the world’s most eminent scientists.
